Ábhair Roghnacha Bliain 1 / 1st Year Subject Options
Students study NINE (9) Subjects & TWO (2) Short Courses (PE & SPHE) in Junior Cycle.
Of the NINE subjects, students take SIX (6) ‘Core Subjects‘ and THREE (3) Optional Subjects
CORE SUBJECTS: 1. Gaeilge (Irish), 2. Béarla (English), 3. Mata (Mathematics), 4. Eolaíocht (Science) 5. Fraincís (French) and 6. Stair (History).
OPTIONAL SUBJECTS: Students choose THREE (3) ‘Optional Subjects‘, from the list below.
Eacnamaíocht Bhaile (Home Economics), Ealaín (Art), Graificí Teicniúla (Technical Graphics), Staidéar Gnó (Business), Miotalóireacht (Metalwork), Teic. Ábhar Adhmad (Woodwork), Gearmáinís (German), Ceol (Music), Tír Eolaíocht (Geography)
IMPORTANT: Students get an opportunity to experience ALL ‘Optional Subjects’ during a taster period in first term after which they choose their preferred subject from 3 option blocks (Each Option Block contain 3/4 subjects from which students will choose ONE. The Option Blocks will be constructed after feedback is received from incoming students).

If your son/daughter is in Bliain 1 or Idirbhliain (Transition Year) you can inform yourself of subject content, assessment, progression routes etc,. by following the steps below.
CÉIM 1 / STEP 1 – log onto the Coláiste homepage and click on the Gairmtreoir/Careers icon
CÉIM 2 / STEP 2 – click on the CAREERS PORTAL link, when you land on the homepage click on the SCHOOL icon as illustrated below (there are many more interesting links on this page)
CÉIM 3 / STEP 3 – now select Junior Cert or Leaving Cert
CEIM 4 / STEP 4– the illustration below shows the Leaving Cert page, where, as illustrated one can select individual subjects, download course content and follow other interesting links from there.
