5th Year student Ciara Ní Ghríofa has won Not 1, not 2 but 3 National Awards at the BT Young Scientist’s Exhibition for her project. Ciara developed an App to help children with autism. Her work so impressed the judges that she won:-
  • RTÉ Best Social and behavioural Science Project Overall.
  • The Abbott “Life to the Fullest award” award ( the sponsors have offered Ciara’s class a visit to Abbott’s medical devices lab in Longford)
  • First place in the senior individual social and behavioural sciences
  • Ciara’s project has been picked as one of thirty to be part of the BT Business Boot Camp. All at Coláiste an Eachréidh ar hugely proud of her achievements!!! Click below for more

Congratulations to our recipients of GRETB awards. The ceremony took place at the Raheen Woods Hotel on Thursday May 5th. In total 78 pupils representing 20 GRETB (Galway Roscommon Education Training Board) Schools were presented with awards in acknowledgement of their achievements across various categories.
The Coláiste students were Sinead Pokall, Muireann Ní Bhaoill, Leigha Ní Chearra, Seán Ó Conaill, Ciara Ní Chonaill and the TY Class.

Second place out of @16,000 entries!

Congratulations to Seán Ó Conaill and Múinteoir Turlough on the great achievement of being awarded second place in Ireland for Seán’s Junior Certificate WOODWORK project. The Irish Technological Teachers Association shortlisted entries to 30 projects, the winner attends a school in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary and we are all delighted with this tremendous success. Nationally, in excess of 16,000 candidates sat the Materials Technology Wood Junior Certificate examinations which gives an appreciation and context to the significance of the award – comhghairdeas le Seán agus lena mhúinteoir, Turlough.

Chuir an t-Uachtarán, Mícheal Ó hUigínn fáilte roimh chách ag míniú scéal chúlra an bhrataigh agus d’iarr ar an slua a bheith bródúil as bratach na tíre.

Comhghairdeas le chuile dhuine a bhain gradam amach ag ócáid ‘Ceiliúradh Gaisce’ an tSamhraidh. Arís i mbliana d’eirigh thar cinn le daltaí an Choláiste ar na páirceanna agus cúirteanna imeartha- gan dabht b’é Craobh na hÉireann sa SPIKEBALL buaic phointe na bliana. Chomh maith le sin bhí na gaiscí acadúla, rannpháirtíocht dhearfach i saol an Choláiste agus tinreamh den scoth – sa 6 bliana a chaith Ashleigh linn bhí sí ar scoil gach lá cé is moite de lá amháin!

Again this year our students excelled and their achievements were recognised and acknowledged at the traditional end-of-year awards ceremony. Awards are presented in the following categories – attendance, leadership, classwork, Gaeilge, various sports (football, basketball, soccer, camogie, spikeball, athletics and other individual sports), academic projects’ gold medallists and Overall Sports’ Personality of the Year – Leah Ní Mhuirgheasa.

Tréaslaítear le chuile dhuine a bhí páirteach sa bhfeachtas chun an BRAT GLAS a bhaint amach ach go háirithe Múinteoir Breandán Ó Duill agus an Coiste Glas a bhí i mbun na hoibre. Dhírigh siad a n-aird ar athchúrsáil agus táthar ag súil le tógáil ar an ‘tús maith’ sna blianta amach romhainn.

Congratulations to the Coiste Glas pupils and their teacher Breandán Ó Duill on attaining the GREEN FLAG in recognition of their recycling initiatives. Expect more progress in the coming years. Comhghairdeas le cách!

IDIRBHLIANA – TY AWARDS CEREMONY 2015

Bhí ócáid dheas ag deireadh na bliana ag a bronnadh gradam éagsúla ar lucht na hIdirbhliana as a gcuid oibre le linn na bliana. B’é foilsiúchán an LEABHAR BLIANA an éacht ba mhó a déanadh mar gurbh é an chéad uair ag daltaí an Choláiste a leithéid a dhéanamh – buíochas le gach duine a chabhraigh ar aon bhealach ach go háirithe Seán Ó Mainnín agus Áine Uí Fhlannacha.

The TY end-of year awards ceremony was held in May – pupils were presented with FETAC level 3 & level 4 certificates in media studies and IT Skills respectively, SafeFoods certificates and other awards.

Seán in the finals of Linguistics Olympiad

Sean Ó Gaibhneáin of Coláiste an Eachréidh Athenry was among Ireland’s top 100 young problem solvers who pitted their wits against the languages of the world at the national final of the ADAPT All-Ireland Linguistics Olympiad at Dublin City University on 24 March 2015.

Sean beat off competition from more than 4,000 students from 161 schools in 29 counties to qualify for the national final of the Olympiad. He now eagerly awaits the announcement of the national final results this week. The top four performers will be selected to represent Ireland at the International Linguistics Olympiad in Bulgaria in July 2015. Read More/Tuilleadh Eolais

Ar an Aoine 9ú Eanáir cuireadh an GAELBHRATACH ar foluain i gColáiste an Eachréidh – an chéad scoil i gConnacht chun an gradam náisiúnta úd a bhaint amach. B’é Bernard Dunne príomh-aoi an lae agus labhair sé go hionspioráideach ar a mheas don Ghaeilge. Tugadh aitheantas ar leith don obair iontach atá déanta ag Coiste Gaelach an Choláiste chun an Gaelbhratach a bhaint amach.

“I’ve always wanted to be a fluent Irish speaker and two years ago when I retired from boxing I made a promise to myself that I would learn it,” said Dunne.

“I’m deeply proud of my Irishness and it’s vital to pass my passion for Irish on to my children. “It’s not about being fluent, it’s about taking pride in our language and using whatever Irish you have. You’ll be surprised what you know,” he said.
