Tháinig aoichainteoirí go speisialta chuig an choláiste le deireannas le cearta daonna a phlé lenár scoláirí. Tugadh léargas ar stair chearta daonna ar fud na cruinne agus cur síos ar 30 ceart mar atá leagtha amach ag na Náisiúin Aontaithe.
Cé go bhfuil cearta aitheanta ag tíortha go hidirnáisiúnta, ní shin le rá go bhfuil na cearta céanna ar fáil go forleathan. Cinnte, tá an reachtaíocht ann ach is dúshlán ar leith í a chur i bhfeidhm. Ar ndóigh, bímís dóchasach go bhfuil ár ndaltaí níos tuisceanaí ar a rólanna féin sa tsochaí amach anseo.
Recently, guest speakers visited the college to discuss Human Rights. Pupils engaged in a workshop where they learned about the history of the struggle to recognize human rights throughout the world. They also had the opportunity to discuss the benefits of each of the 30 rights as laid out by the United Nations.
Although, these human rights are recognized internationally, unfortunately they are not afforded to all of the world’s citizens. These rights might be set down in law but they still have to be enforced. Of course, we are hopeful that our students are somewhat more aware of their responsibilities as citizens of the globe.
