Bua Stairiúil – Rounders

Comhghairdeas le Kateyln agus Caroline a bhuaigh Craobh Mionúir agus Craobh fé 16 na hÉireann sa gcluiche Rounders

On the 12th August in Tymon Park, Dublin at Limekiln Rounders Club. Athenry played the host club Limekiln in a match based on the best of 3 games, 5 innings per game. The first game ended with a score of 18 – 13 to Athenry when Caroline Joyce tagged out the last Limekiln player in the 5th innning. The second game had some outstanding batting from the girls including Katelyn MacCullagh and the final score 34 – 17 to Athenry. This put Athenry as over all winners making history for both Club & County becoming the first Galway Club to win an All-Ireland GAA Minor title in Rounders.
On the minor team of 11 – one girl was 17yr, 1 was 16yr & the remaining 9 girls where aged 14 – 15yrs old meaning 9 of the girls can defend their title for the next 2 yrs. The Limekiln ladies where all aged 17 – 18yr.
On the 25th August in University of Limerick, Athenry Rounders Club played in the U15’s All-Ireland. Making history again to become the first Galway Club to be crowned U15 Champions. With a score line of 12 – 5 against Ballybrown (Limerick), 25 – 4 against Skryne (Meath), 15 – 4 against The Heath (Laois) & 21 – 2 against Breaffy (Meath) in the group stages. The final was tough battle against Emo (Laois) with Athenry eventually wining 10 – 4.
Both Katelyn & Caroline now have 4 All-Ireland Rounders medals – U13’s in 2016, U14’s in 2017 & U15’s & Minors in 2018.
